About Us

Originally incorporated in 1981, the LVNBA (the only bar association in Nevada serving the African-American legal community) is Nevada’s only affiliate chapter of the National Bar Association (NBA), which is the oldest minority bar and the largest organization of African-American attorneys in the United States.  Formed in 1925, the NBA was created when the American Bar Association (ABA) was racially segregated and did not allow African-Americans to join.  Although the ABA changed its policy several decades later, the NBA and its affiliates continue to address the legal issues and social, economic disparities that are unique to the African-American community.

The LVNBA’s goals include advancing the social and economic well-being of its membership; improving relations between the legal profession and the community at large; promoting understanding, goodwill, and cooperation among lawyers and in the legal profession; aiding in reforms for the economic and social welfare of all people in a manner consistent with the principals of a free democratic society; and improving the educational, social and economic status of the African-American community to eliminate discrimination.

The LVNBA boasts a dynamic collection of professionals representing, the private and public sectors, including municipal, state, and federal judges. The LVNBA’s history reflects the birth, growth, maturation, and success of the African-American legal community and its commitment to access to justice within the Southern Nevada region.

LVNBA Founding Members

At its core, the LVNBA is a civil rights bar organization, focused on addressing various issues (for example, social and economic disparities that affect the African-American community). Over the years, the organization has grown from a small group of fourteen trailblazing African-American legal pioneers (Robert Archie, Andras F. Babero, B. Jeanie Banks, Marcus Cooper, James Davidson, Mike Davis, David Dean, Booker T. Evans, Judge Addeliar D. Guy III, James O. Porter, Judge Johnnie Rawlinson, Danny Winder, Arthur Williams, and Judge Earle White), to an organization consisting of more than 100 dynamic African-American attorneys, representing the private and public sectors, including, municipal, state and federal judges. The LVNBA's history reflects the birth, growth, maturation and success of the African-American legal community, and its commitment to access to justice, within the great state of Nevada.
